The Royal Governor of Oahu originally planted coffee in the Manoa Valley from Brazilian cuttings in 1825. Today coffee from Oahu grows mainly above the coastal town of Waialua overlooking Oahu’s spectacular north shore. You can see coffee growing along the Kamehameha Highway on former sugarcane land down to the old sugar mill and sunflower fields. Over the summer months coffee cherries turn from pale green to a rich bright red, and then are ready for harvest. Both wet and dry hulling process remove the parchment and create a distinct “Island of Oahu” flavor.
All Papa Kona Coffee varieties are roasted in small batches at Papa Kona Restaurant & Bar overlooking the breaking ocean waves of Kailua Bay.
Cupping notes: Molasses, fruity pebbles, cherry, milk chocolate, lemons. Body becomes juicy as it cools.
